About

Hi, I’m Mollie.

I write things. (Sometimes I even get paid for it.)

I’ve wanted to be a writer since… well, since before I even knew how to write.

I have a vivid memory of walking around in the lobby of my little sister’s dance class, scribbling journalist-notes on a piece of paper, and overhearing a mom say “oh how cute, she doesn’t even know how to write cursive.” I was highly offended at the time, but I can just imagine myself at age 6, carefully crafting long squiggly lines with my gel pen on a handheld notepad. You know, writing.

Things have changed a little since then. I got a bachelor’s degree and an MFA in creative writing, I scored a job as a full-time copywriter, and I sort of learned how to write cursive. (I’m left-handed, give me a break.)

Making an impact is a big deal to me.

Through my academic career, I served as a volunteer and lobby leader for Invisible Children – a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and helping rebuild communities in northern Uganda as a result of the world’s longest running civil war. Seeing direct results of our actions during that time was incredibly motivational and taught me the importance of not just hard work, but an organized approach to problems and an unending drive to solve them.

Since then, I’ve started fostering animals through local shelters, lending my writing skills to local political campaigns and volunteering for causes I care about whenever I have the opportunity. Whether it’s a bio for a troublesome foster dog, a postcard mailer for a congressional candidate, or a poetry collection centered on mental health awareness, writing plays a big part in the way I contribute to my community and the world.

I’m a creative writer first.

I am a poet first and foremost, and I approach copywriting differently than most other copywriters I’ve worked with. While I’m constantly striving to learn more about the copy field and marketing, I’m a firm believer that a different approach to copy brings fresh ideas into play.

As a poet, it’s usually my goal to tell the biggest possible story in the smallest possible space. I spend a lot of time re-writing things in an effort to make them more concise. (Overly complicated board game instructions are one of my biggest pet peeves.) I focus heavily on linguistics, and the way words should make people feel. Showing, not telling. Setting the scene with the consumer in the middle of it. Knowing the rules before breaking them. (You know, like using sentence fragments to hold your attention.)

I’m currently pursuing publication of my debut full-length poetry book, Ornithomancy, and you can find my recent publication history on my portfolio tab. Thanks for reading, welcome, and I can’t wait to work together!
